Husky kennel and safari selfguided 10 km, Levi

  • We offer you a self-guided husky-safari with a track length of 10 km. Approximate safari times is 30-45 min. Safari time varies, as it always includes stop-over and it’s dependent on the weather conditions. During the stop-over musher and passenger can change places.

We use 3 husky-kennels, located 20-25 min drive from Levi center. In all kennels owners are professional sport dog mushers and have specially trained Arctic-Alaskan breed huskies. This breed was created by cross-breeding in the beginning of 20th century in Alaska especially for dog racing during the Gold rush period. There are over 50 dogs in each kennel, including some Siberian huskies and puppies.

Upon arrival, you will get complete instructions of driving (guiding) the dog sledge on your own and then immediately start the safari. The track lies in the forest and in a beautiful open hilly area. After the ride the host will welcome you inside a cozy teepee where you can warm up around the open fire, have a hot drink with cookie. The host will tell about life with the dogs and answer questions.

    What's included

    • Transfer
    • Guiding
    • Gingerbread cookies and hot berry juice
    • Winter clothing is available at the kennels (overalls and boots), but sizes are not guaranteed

    Not included

    • Meals
    • Single supplement for husky safari selfguided

    Important remarks

We strongly recommend wearing warm winter clothing. It can be rented separately before the departure or delivered to your hotel room or villa. Please provide shoe, trouser and jacket sizes in advance. At the husky kennel there is a possibility to hire winter overall and shoes and it’s free of charge, but they don’t guarantee your size availability. It’s better to be overly warm dressed than “underdressed”, especially on longer safari programs. In cold weather, we recommend applying no-water based winter cream for face and cover tightly open skin areas.

Please take off your gloves/mittens when touching the huskies and other animals! They love to play with gloves and might break it easily. Do not be afraid of the dogs, as they’re genetically friendly to people. Do not feed the dogs.

Sit quietly in a sleigh and do not take your arms and legs outside the sleigh, always follow the instructions given by a musher.

    Recommendation

Please always bear in mind that one sledge can take max. 2 adults + 1 child (under 7 y.o.) or 2 adults + 2 small children (3-5 y.o.). Final decision about seating is taken by the host on the spot, as it can depend on participants weight, height, etc.

When you’re 2 persons: 1 adult + a child older than 7 y.o., both must pay adult price.
When you’re 3 persons: 2 adults + a child older than 7 y.o., one of the 3 persons (possibly a child) will seat as a passenger in another sledge, driven by a guide. Another option for a 10 km safari is to buy a single sledge for one adult and a double sledge for another adult with a child.
