Husky Kennel Visit & Walk to a Forest Kota with Pancakes in Levi — Meet 40 Dogs, Walk the Lappish Forest, Pancakes by the Fire

- The same specialist kennel as the winter self-drive safaris — Lapland Wild Witch, 40 dogs, year-round care
- Free-run area: step in among the dogs without leads or barriers
- Short walk to a riverside kota hut — Finnish pancakes made fresh over the open fire
- All ages welcome — no fitness requirements, light walking only
- Small kennel by design: the dogs know their keeper, and she knows every one of them
Lapland Wild Witch — small high animal welfare kennel near Levi
Lapland Wild Witch in Tepasto, 30 km north of Levi, is a small kennel by design — 40 dogs only: Siberian huskies, Arctic-Alaskan huskies and three reindeer dogs. The kennel owner lives on site alongside her dogs; they are not just her business, they are her family. Animal welfare shapes how the kennel runs: small groups, maximum 3 sessions per day, at least one full rest day per dog per week, regular vet checks and physiotherapy, high-quality food, proper cleaning of the dogs’ habitat and free-running time.
Meeting the pack
On arrival, the guide leads the group through the kennel — introducing the different breeds, explaining how the dogs are trained and cared for through the seasons, and answering questions about what life at a working sled dog kennel actually looks like. The free-run area is open: guests walk in among the dogs, pet and photograph them without barriers. The dogs approach on their own terms.
Walk to the riverside kota hut and Finnish pancakes
From the kennel, a short walk through the Lappish forest leads to a traditional kota hut by the river. The guide makes Finnish pancakes — lätty — over the open fire: thin, crispy, served with arctic berry jam. Hot drink alongside. A calm end to the visit, with the forest quiet around the hut.
Remove gloves before touching the dogs — they will play with them. Do not feed the dogs.
Child price applies for ages 2–11.

Important remarks
F.A.Q.
- Is this program available in winter?
No. This is a snowless season program, available 1 August to 31 October only. In winter the same kennel operates self-drive husky safaris on snow — the 5 km and 10 km options.
- What are lätty pancakes?
Lätty is the Finnish word for thin crepe-style pancakes — made fresh over the open fire in the kota hut and served with arctic berry jam. They are a traditional part of Finnish outdoor culture.
- Can very young children come?
Yes. All ages are welcome. The walk to the kota is short and on easy forest paths. Young children can enter the free-run area alongside adults. The guide monitors the interaction throughout.
- What should I wear?
Comfortable, layered clothing suitable for the season and a short forest walk. Insect repellent is recommended in summer. In late autumn, temperatures in Lapland can be cold — dress warmly.
