Part 1: E-Fatbike Ride Through Kätkä Fell on Private Winter Trails
The tour begins with pickup from Levi and a short transfer to the starting point. After bike fitting, helmet and a safety briefing, the group sets off on private winter trails through the Kätkä fell wilderness. The 10–15 km route crosses frozen marshes, open bog and quiet woodland roads. No other riders on these trails. The pace is adapted to the group. Wildlife sightings — reindeer, hares, snow grouse — are possible along the way.
Part 2: Reindeer Herder’s Day in the Secret Reindeer Forest
After the bike ride, the group arrives at the Secret Reindeer Forest — a privately owned old pine and birch forest where the reindeer herd roams freely. No other visitors are in the area during the visit. The reindeer approach the group anticipating food. The herder leads the group through several feeding spots, talking throughout about the animals, the yearly cycle of herding work and what this forest means to the family.
Reindeer are semi-wild animals. Remain calm and follow the herder’s instructions at all times.
Traditional Lappish Kota Hut Lunch by the Open Fire
The kota is pre-heated and ready on arrival. Our kota chef serves a traditional Lappish kota meal by the open fire: the meal starts with our kota chef’s legendary soup with rieska flatbread. Then reindeer sausage grilled over the fire — vegetarian, vegan or chicken alternatives available on request. Then thin Finnish pancakes with arctic berry jam and whipped cream. Coffee brewed in a pot over the fire, berry juice, herbal tea. The herder keeps talking while the food cooks.
Lasso Practice and Reindeer Herder’s Diploma
Before the return, guests try lasso throwing — a practical skill still used in real reindeer herding, harder than it looks. Each guest receives a personal diploma of reindeer herder’s assistant.
Ride Safely with Comfort and Power — New 2025 Helkama FE12 Electric Fatbike
You ride a new 2025 Helkama FE12 electric fatbike — Finnish-made for Arctic terrain, equipped with a 708Wh battery. Our electric fatbikes are not available as standalone rental — they are used exclusively in guided tours, which means every bike is used under supervision, properly maintained and in consistently better condition than rental fleets at other operators in the area. The wide tires and powerful motor handle uneven ground, snow, mud and gentle climbs with ease, so the focus stays on the landscape and the ride rather than the effort.

Important remarks
F.A.Q.
- Is prior cycling experience needed?
No. The Helkama FE12 has a powerful motor and wide tires that handle snow-packed trails with ease. A brief safety and handling introduction is given before departure. Basic confidence on a bicycle is helpful.
- What is the kota meal?
The kota is a traditional Lappish round wooden hut with an open fire at the centre and reindeer skins on the benches. Our kota chef prepares the meal by the fire: the legendary soup to start, then reindeer sausage grilled over the fire, then thin Finnish pancakes with arctic berry jam and whipped cream. Coffee brewed in a pot, berry juice and herbal tea throughout. Vegetarian, vegan or chicken sausage alternatives available on request — note at booking.
- What is the Secret Reindeer Forest?
A privately owned old pine and birch forest where the reindeer herding family keeps their herd. No other visitors are allowed in the area during the visit. The reindeer are semi-wild and accustomed to the herder’s presence. They approach because they know what the arrival of the group means: food.
- Why is this tour adults only (16+)?
The minimum height requirement for our electric fatbikes is 150 cm, which in practice means ages 16 and above. In addition, the combination of a physically demanding ride in cold winter conditions and a long day outdoors makes this tour more suitable for older teenagers and adults. For families with younger children, the Reindeer Herder's Day is available separately as a snowmobile sled program.
- Why are your electric fatbikes in better condition than at other operators?
Our electric fatbikes are not available as standalone rental. Every bike is used exclusively in guided tours — always with a guide present, always under supervision. This means the bikes are handled correctly, checked after every ride and properly maintained throughout the season. Rental fleets at other operators are used without supervision and often by riders with no prior experience, which results in significantly more wear. Our bikes are also new 2025 models — so you start the season on well-maintained, properly set up equipment from day one.
