We will pick you up at a Safarimarket office in Levi, get dressed in warm overall and drive you by car to the ice-fishing place nearby Levi. Upon arrival you will get special fishermans’s boots, warm mittens and hat to keep you warm and dry during the fishing. We will walk a short distance to a small lake, where our guide will give you brief fishing instructions, you will get your fishing gear and start to fish!
The lake has planted rainbow trout fish, which should be quite easy to catch. Of course, fish activity depends on the weather and in December due to a short daylight and polar night conditions, fish may not be that active. We will have about 2 hours for fishing, after that we will have a break to warm up by the fire and have a snack.
If you’re lucky to catch a fish, our guide will help to cook it for you on the open fire in a traditional Finnish way of “fire-glowing”. The fish is filleted and pinned to a wooden board and put vertically next to the fire flames for about 40 minutes. This way the fish gets the natural fire glow and a bit smoky taste. It’s the best fish meal you will try in Lapland.
In case of no catch, we will offer you a tasty local snack and a warm drink.
If you wish you can also take your catch home in a bag.
During the fishing, you can always warm up in a lean-to by the open fire, which is right by the lake. Our guide will tell you stories about fishing traditions in Finland.

Catch is not guaranteed but chances of catching are rather high as the fish is planted and lake is small.
Recommendation
We recommend wearing thermo body-wear + multilayer clothing and extra woolen socks.
